Welfare Of Blind People In Sabah Well Taken Care Of

TUARAN, Feb 3 (Bernama) -- The state government takes good care of the blind in Sabah, Community Development and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Azizah Mohd Dun said on Monday.

She said assistance, including financial assistance and training, was given to them to support themselves in line with the government's vision to advance the needs of the people, including the disabled.

Azizah said for the working blind people, a monthly allowance of RM300 was given while those without work received general aid of RM100 a month.

"We are concerned with the fate of this group and we will continue finding ways to help them, including providing additional facilities," she told reporters after visiting the Centre for the Blind here.

She said there were about 1,500 registered blind people in Sabah and most of them had access to the assistance.

Apart from that, Azizah said, the ministry provided them with training to enhance their skills in handicraft making and helped to market their products.
