Coastal Cycling Boosts Sports and Sojourn Tourism in Rushan

Recently, the 2026 “China Life Cup” Shandong Coastal Cycling Grand Prix officially kicked off at Silver Beach, Rushan. Some 800 cycling enthusiasts from across China gathered for a thrilling test of speed and endurance along the scenic coastal course.

Starting and finishing at Silver Beach Thumb Plaza, the 26-kilometer-per-lap course follows the coastal tourism highway. The race featured five categories: Men’s Elite, Men’s Youth, Men’s Masters, Women’s Open, and Mass Recreation, combining competitive racing with broad public participation.

A 5-kilometer Mass Recreation category was added to promote public fitness and recreational cycling. Local residents and young students rode along the coastal greenways, enjoying the sea and scenery while embracing a healthy, low-carbon lifestyle. Their energy added a lively touch to Silver Beach in early autumn.

Sports bring visitors, while events drive cultural and tourism development. In recent years, Rushan has leveraged sporting events to promote the integrated development of sports and tourism. Making the most of its 21-kilometer Silver Beach coastline and rich ecological resources, the city has upgraded tourism facilities and services, including Moon Bay Lighthouse, Moon Bay Park, a signature food street, Jinding Yinxiu Commercial Complex and Heshangdong Coastal Road. Improvements to healthcare and elderly care services and winter heating have also enhanced the city’s appeal as a coastal destination for long-term stays.

Rushan is also developing a distinctive portfolio of coastal sporting events, integrating cycling, paddleboarding and beach sports with wellness and tourism. Event-specific tourism incentives help attract both participants and spectators, turning the temporary influx of visitors brought by competitions into longer stays. “Come for the race, stay for the lifestyle” is emerging as a new trend, building momentum for Rushan to become a renowned coastal wellness and sojourn destination.
