Dong’e County in Shandong Province Builds National Center for Development of Traditional Chinese Medicine Culture

Dong’e County, Shandong Province leverages the inherent advantage of Ejiao, a traditional Chinese medicinal product, and its rich heritage in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) to strive to become a national pioneer in the inheritance and innovation of TCM culture.

Dong’e County is committed to expanding and strengthening Ejiao and “Ejiao +” industries. To this end, the county has established industrial parks focusing on TCM Health, China Resources Bio, Jiecheng Pharmaceutical, Zhengyuan Traditional Chinese Medicine, Yuyantang Ejiao, and Dong’e Ejiao health consumer products. The county has also introduced 25 health enterprises, thereby creating a dual-industry structure that combines “eastern pharmaceutical industry + western health and wellness, disease prevention + treatment.”

The county actively invites renowned TCM practitioners to provide consultations, as well as engage in mentorship programs to cultivate more TCM inheritors. This initiative promotes the integration of TCM into grassroots-level healthcare, ensuring nationwide coverage of traditional medicine clinics in towns and streets, and creating two high-quality traditional medicine clinics and 48 rural health clinics featuring TCM. Dong’e County has also established China’s only museum that focuses on “nourishing health” using a single type of medicinal herb, specifically themed around Ejiao. This has contributed to the development of a cultural education system for TCM around Dong’e Ejiao and the Dong’e Ejiao City scenic area, with diversified layouts of Ejiao product enterprises.

The county has hosted a series of events, including the China Time-Honored Brand TCM Development Conference & The First TCM Inheritance and Innovation Development Conference, as well as the Opening Ceremony of the Nishan World TCM Forum in Dong’e and the Launch of the 2024 Shandong (Dong’e) TCM Cultural Tourism Experience Week. These events have further enhanced the profile of Dong’e County TCM cultural brand.
