Rushan Oysters Pave Way for Industrial Diversification Development

As winter snowflakes fall and the air grows warm, it’s the perfect season to indulge in plump, succulent oysters. Recently, the second season of the “Winter Tour of Rushan, Enjoying Oysters” — “Premium Products from Shandong, Oysters from Rushan” series — came to a successful conclusion. Through on-site promotions in cities such as Jinan and Guangzhou, along with events like oyster food festival and college student feast festival, this initiative has connected industrial growth, cultural promotion, and market expansion, highlighting Rushan’s deep-rooted history and vibrant potential in the oyster industry.

At the Jinan promotional event, a diverse group of guests from various sectors gathered for the occasion. The event, themed “Premium Products from Shandong, Oysters from Rushan,” presented Rushan’s oyster industry and cultural tourism resources through expert lectures, tourism promotions, animated advertisements, and partnership signings. This multifaceted approach not only promoted deeper collaboration between Jinan and Rushan in cultural tourism but also expanded the sales channels for Rushan oysters.

Meanwhile, the college student feast festival was a lively spectacle. In front of the Shanhaijian Restaurant at Shandong Vocational University of Foreign Affairs, 15 large iron pots were steaming with fresh oysters, offering a unique culinary experience for both students and faculty. The event featured a vibrant mix of activities, including traditional Yangko dance performance, street dance by students, oyster shucking contest, quiz game, and even an “Oyster Wishing Wall” where participants shared their best wishes for the development of the Rushan oysters industry.

Located on the southern coast of the Shandong Peninsula, Rushan benefits from nearly 200km of pristine coastline and 1.7 million mu of Class I marine waters. Thanks to its excellent ecological environment, Rushan has nurtured a thriving coastal aquaculture industry, with Rushan oysters as its flagship product.

In recent years, Rushan has actively pursued a strategy of modernizing its marine industry and focusing on capital investment, technological advancements, and talent development to drive the transformation of its marine industry into one that is ecological, large-scale, standardized, and brand-driven. Rushan now leads the nation in both production and output value of aquaculture, ranking first among all county-level units in China. Its market share in fresh and premium oysters is unparalleled, with the brand value of Rushan oysters reaching 19.385 billion yuan.

This positions Rushan at the top of the “National Geographical Indication Oyster Brand Value” rankings.
