Fuzhou reaps fruitful results in the China-Indonesia “Two Countries, Twin Parks” initiative

Recently, China welcomed its very first batch of imported fresh coconuts from Indonesia at Fuzhou Airport, and these 200-kilogram treasures were soon shipped to the producer at the Chinese facility of the “Two Countries, Twin Parks” initiative.

“Two Countries, Twin Parks” means China and Indonesia set up industrial parks in each other’s territory to seek synergy, which turns out to be a remarkable mechanism to leverage facilities and policies. On the Chinese side there is the Fuzhou Yuanhong Investment Zone, with a planned area of 61 square kilometers, while on the Indonesian side are three locations, namely Bintan, Aviarna, and Batang, with a planned area of 87.6 square kilometers.

Indonesia is one of the world’s largest countries for coconut farming and coconut products manufacturing, and Chinese consumers crave fresh coconuts. Therefore, the import business is promising. Considering such a supply-demand situation, Fuzhou Yuanhong Investment Zone is making every effort to build a transnational project, Coconut Industrial Park, and has kicked off four production lines. The smooth entry of coconuts definitely helps the park forge a new upstream and downstream industrial chain and fuels China-Indonesia economic and trade cooperation.

Though thousands of miles apart, the duo has partnered in not only one project but many. The “Two Countries, Twin Parks” harnesses the strengths of both sides, prioritizes five sectors (i.e., marine fisheries, tropical agriculture, light industry and textiles, machinery and electronics, and green mining), and explores an international division of labor model with effective consolidation of industrial chain, supply chain, and value chain. Today, more than 70 bilateral projects have been rolled out, and the total investment exceeds 93 billion yuan.

This year marks the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Indonesia, and Fuzhou, a city that thrives on marine resources, will seize opportunities brought by “Two Countries, Twin Parks,” expand high-level opening-up, and contribute to a better tomorrow for the Belt and Road Initiative.
