Winter Mist and Frost in Mengshan

LINYI, China, Jan. 30, 2026 /Xinhua-AsiaNet/–

A strong cold front brought the first snowfall of 2026 and spectacular rime ice to the Guimeng and Yunmeng scenic areas of the Yimeng Mountains. Snow-covered peaks, crystal-clear icicles, and frost-laden branches have turned the mountains into a dreamlike ice-and-snow fairyland, attracting numerous tourists and photography enthusiasts.

At Guimeng Scenic Area, the 1,156-meter-high Guimeng Peak offers the best vantage point for viewing the rime. Pine, cypress, and shrubbery encased in ice crystals create a spectacular frost landscape. In the sunlight, the ice glimmers with fragmented golden hues, cloaking the forest in silver and forming a majestic northern panorama alongside the distant snow-capped mountains. Cliffside walkways and glass bridges, adorned with ice and snow, appear both dramatic and poetic.

Yunmeng Scenic Area offers a quieter charm, where frost-lined forest trails resemble an icy corridor and Yunmeng Peak rises in crisp, wintry grandeur.

According to park staff, rime forms when sharp temperature drops combine with high humidity, causing vapor to freeze on surfaces – creating this rare seasonal spectacle.

Located in southern Shandong, the Yimeng Mountains are a renowned natural and cultural landmark. This year’s frost scenery adds a unique allure to local winter tourism.
