This year, Rushan has strategically positioned itself as a coastal wellness tourism destination. By seamlessly integrating its rich portfolio of National Geographical Indication (GI) products and Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) traditions with the culinary and tourism sectors, Rushan has curated exquisite “GI Feast” and “ICH Feast,” breathing new vitality into the city’s broader development.

At the Silver Beach Hotel in Binhai New Area, a series of dishes rooted in local food culture, such as big mackerel dumplings, oyster and sweet potato noodle soup, toon salad with sea duck eggs, fresh shrimp with old tofu, and traditional home-style seafood preparations, highlight Rushan’s folk culinary techniques passed down through generations.

“ICH dishes are mainly traditional home-style foods of Rushan, passed down and developed by generations of artisans,” said the restaurant manager of Silver Beach Hotel.

Dishes like silkworm with chili and egg, perilla leaf pork with fresh chili sauce, poached oysters with egg white, shredded mackerel, and shrimp paste with corn pancakes are mouthwatering even by their names. These innovative GI Feast dishes blend Rushan’s mountain and sea delicacies with health-oriented culinary concepts, not only maximizing the nutritional benefits of food but also vividly presenting the city’s specialty products.

“The GI Feast menu selects Rushan’s characteristic ingredients, such as local Rushan oysters, Zhaiqian shrimp paste, and fresh chili sauce. We hope guests will taste our dishes and more friends will visit Rushan,” the restaurant manager added.

Located along the 37° north latitude golden coastline, Rushan benefits from rich ecological resources and hosts 25 nationally recognized GI products, providing strong support for its wellness food industry. This year, major catering establishments in Rushan have launched “GI Feast” and “ICH Feast,” a concentrated display of local specialty foods, and more importantly, a vivid practice of integrating GI resources, ICH projects, and cultural tourism wellness.

Looking ahead, the city plans to develop a comprehensive promotion system by training “Rushan Cuisine Ambassadors,” building culinary innovation platforms, and expanding experiential consumption spaces through integrated food, culture, and social interaction hubs. These efforts aim to further strengthen Rushan’s positioning as a distinctive coastal wellness tourism destination.
