Taking the opportunity of hosting a marathon, the Yanggu County in Liaocheng City, Shandong Province actively explores an innovative model of integrated development across the sectors of culture, sports, tourism, and agriculture. This initiative aims to foster a new paradigm of synergy between sporting events and cultural tourism as well as commerce, significantly enhancing the professionalism, participation, experience, and impact of the event.
A race for all, ushering in a new chapter of national fitness. The Yanggu Marathon Organizing Committee is launching a series of activities in celebration of the event’s third anniversary. These include a public call for slogans for the “2025 Hero Yanggu Staff Half Marathon,” a photography contest for “The Most Beautiful Running Moments,” and recruitment of pacers and volunteers for the 2025 race. These efforts aim to boost public awareness of the event, encourage widespread participation, and establish the marathon as a benchmark in nationwide sporting events.
A cultural event traces the historical evolution of the ancient city. This year’s marathon route will weave through both bustling commercial districts and iconic cultural and natural landmarks, such as the Guanyang Archway, Zihui Lake Cultural Plaza, Jinshui Lake Bridge, and the Wetland Park. Participants will run through vibrant urban landscapes while absorbing the echoes of history, experiencing the city’s cultural essence, and appreciating the unique charm of Yanggu. Additionally, themed markets such as the “Yellow River Market” and “Grand Canal Market” will be set up, featuring sections for local agricultural specialties (e.g., Gujie grains, Yanggu chili peppers), traditional food stalls (e.g., Yanggu roast chicken, Wu Dalang biscuits).
An economic event transforms competition into economic vitality. The marathon serves as a catalyst for promoting integrated development across sports, culture, tourism, and agriculture. Yanggu County aims to create a synergistic model where sports events drive tourism and commercial growth. While showcasing Yanggu to the outside world, the county seeks to transform event-driven “traffic” into consumer activity and economic momentum. With over 10,000 participants expected, the event is set to stimulate growth in key sectors such as accommodation, catering, retail, and tourism, further enriching consumption scenarios and contributing to regional economic development.
