Guangxi and Macao Seek Comprehensive Cooperation to Jointly Promote Development Opportunities in the Greater Bay Area

The People’s Government of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region signed a letter of intent for comprehensive cooperation with the Government of the Macao Special Administrative Region on May 24. Seven cooperation agreements were signed between government departments and universities in Guangxi and Macao, covering multiple fields such as economy and trade, culture, tourism, environmental protection, and traditional Chinese medicine.

“Jointly Promoting the High-quality Development of the Greater Bay Area and Sharing Opportunities for the Construction of a Strategic Hinterland – 2024 Guangxi and Macao Tour” was held in Macao on May 24. The responsible persons of the corresponding units in Guangxi and Macao signed a letter of intent and an agreement for comprehensive cooperation at the ceremony. Among them, 7 cooperation agreements were signed between Guangxi University of Chinese Medicine and the University of Macau, the Department of Commerce of Guangxi and the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute of the Macao SAR Government, the Department of Culture and Tourism of Guangxi and the Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Macao SAR Government, and other government departments and universities in Guangxi and Macao. In addition, both parties have signed investment agreements on industrial projects such as electronic information, finance, traditional Chinese medicine materials, and cross-border e-commerce.

Ho Iat Seng, the Chief Executive of the Macao Special Administrative Region, delivered a speech stating that in 2014, Macao and Guangxi jointly signed the “Minutes of the Cooperation Talks between Guangxi and Macao”, which agreed on key areas of cooperation. The cooperation between the two regions has continuously expanded and deepened, with significant results. Macao actively cooperates with Guangxi to comprehensively connect and serve the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, and supports Guangxi to become an important strategic hinterland connecting the industrial chain, innovation chain, supply chain, and funding chain of Hong Kong, Macao and ASEAN.

Liu Ning, Secretary of the Party Committee of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, stated that as a guarantee area for building materials, agricultural and sideline products, electricity and other resource elements in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, Guangxi actively integrates into the industrial chain, innovation chain, supply chain, and capital chain of the area. In the future, it will deepen practical cooperation and work together to write a new chapter of cooperation between Guangxi and Macao.

He Ningying, Chair of the Guangxi Youth Friendship Association of Macau, said that Guangxi is building an important strategic hinterland in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, playing an important role in regional cooperation and injecting new impetus and vitality into regional economic development.

“Guangxi and Macau can work together to build modern industrial clusters, build cross-regional and cross-border industrial chains and supply chains, and promote the economic prosperity and development of Guangxi and Macau,” said Zou Zhanye, a member of the leading Party group of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region Government and director of the Industrial Park Reform and Development Office of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.
