According to State Grid Gansu Electric Power Company, with China Energy 100 Thousand Kilowatts Wind Power program in Minqin county, Gansu completed and put into operation on January 1st, 2025, total installed power capacity of Gansu goes beyond 100 million kilowatts, reaching 100.4 million kilowatts, in which 64.46 million kilowatts are new energy based, accounting for 64.2% of the total. The principal status of new energy is further highlighted.

Gansu has diverse methods of energy resources, including thermal power, hydroelectric power, wind power, photovoltaic power, and biomass power, etc. Compared to the end of 13th Five-Year Plan, Gansu’s installed capacity of thermal power has increased by approximately 3 million kilowatts, hydroelectric power remained stable, and new energy increased by nearly 41 million kilowatts. The current installed capacity of new energy is about 2.7 times as the end of 13th Five-Year Plan. The rapid development of new energy has become the main factor of increment of Gansu’s installed capacity.

In order to meet the massive demand for grid connection of new energy, State Grid Gansu Electric Power Company specially established provincial power service institutions, ensuring the in-time grid connection and power generation of large scale wind and photovoltaic bases in deserts and Gobi, as well as all batches of new energy programs within the province. In the last two years, Gansu’s newly installed capacity exceeds 12 million kilowatts annually.

As for power export, Gansu is estimated to export more than 55 billion kilowatt-hour of electricity during the year of 2024, covering 25 provinces nationally. The Gansu Electricity into Shandong and Gansu Electricity into Zhejiang programs are under intensified construction, and Gansu Electricity into Sichuan program is ongoing steadily from all aspects. Gansu plays an even more important role in the West-East Power Transmission program.
