Linshu County Volunteer Service Team for Orphans, Vulnerable Children: Light up Hope of Tomorrow

LINSHU, China

In recent years, the Linshu County Volunteer Service Team for Orphans and Vulnerable Children has achieved remarkable results in its aid efforts, earning many honors like the “Top 100 Best Volunteer Service Organizations” in the Lei Feng Volunteer Service Campaign, the Advanced Collective in Caring for the Next Generation in Linyi City, the Outstanding Contribution Team, the Best Contribution Team, and the Advanced Unit for Charitable Work. It has become a vivid example for embodying and practicing the spirit of Yimeng in the new era.

Since its establishment in June 2018, the team has adopted a support model centered on “emotional uplift, intellectual growth, skills development, and poverty alleviation.” The team engages in “one-on-one” pairing to assist orphans, factual orphans, children from families with mental health issues, children of incarcerated individuals, and children from severely impoverished families. The goal is to support each child while also rescuing their families.

Currently, the team has established a network covering 12 towns and streets in Linshu County, with over 600 volunteers. These volunteers come from diverse sectors, including Party and government officials, business leaders, and educators, among whom 117 are Party members. They have formed “one-on-one” pairings with 453 orphans and vulnerable children to assist in overcoming practical difficulties like low-income support, aid, and medical care, and alleviate the concerns of these children and their guardians, becoming their “family members.”

Encouraging education and aiding children in their personal development is one of the team’s key focuses. For children who have dropped out or shown aversion to school, volunteers actively engage to patiently persuade and motivate them to return to the classroom. Additionally, various towns and streets in Linshu County have established 12 activity venues and 200 “Hope Houses” under the support of Party and community service centers to foster a positive learning and living environment for children.
