Recently, with the number of aggregation users of virtual power plants entering Shanxi power market increasing from 107 to 122, the aggregation capacity has increased from 821,800 kilowatts to 2,013,800 kilowatts, and the maximum adjustable load has reached 256,300 kilowatts.

Virtual power plant integrates various distributed energy resources such as distributed energy resources, adjustable load and energy storage system. Through digital technology, it can monitor the power generation and electricity consumption of these dispersed resources in real time, and then accurately coordinate their output and electricity consumption according to the demand and price signals of the electricity spot market.

Shanxi Province has leveraged virtual power plants to consolidate the large number, wide distribution, small scale of the demand side resources into a unified whole. These resources participate in daily spot trading and load adjustment through volume-based bidding. This initiative plays an positive role in facilitating new energy consumption, balancing the power grid intelligently, and provides strong support for power supply and energy transformation. Relying on the new power load management system, State Grid Shanxi Electric Power Company has built a virtual power plant management service platform to realize the unified access, unified management and unified service of the virtual power plant. Since Shanxi launched virtual power plant market trading on September 1, 2023, the virtual power plants have been operating continuously for 16 months at a trading frequency of 15 minutes/time, with a settlement electricity of 384 million KWH, and a total dividend of 2,593,600 yuan.
