On March 26, the 2026 “Walking on the Summit of the Taihang Mountains” China Xinxiang South Taihang Cultural and Tourism Promotion Event was held in Seoul, South Korea. Supported by Xinhua Daily Telegraph and the Henan Branch of Xinhua News Agency News & Information Center, and launched by Xinxiang South Taihang Tourism Co., Ltd., the event presented the natural beauty and rich cultural heritage of the South Taihang region to the South Korean people and the tourism industry.

In his speech, Hwang Joon-seok, executive vice president of the Korea Association of Travel Agents (KATA), said that South Taihang – known as the “Grand Canyon of China” – holds strong appeal for South Korean tourists. He expressed hope for deeper collaboration between the two countries’ tourism industries to co-develop products and enhance travel accessibility.

More than 50 guests attended the event, including representatives from South Korean tourism associations and cultural tourism enterprises.

The promotion event highlighted the year-round scenery of South Taihang, trending photo spots, boutique homestays, and film and TV shooting locations. Preferential cooperation policies tailored for South Korean travel agencies were also announced. Yue Xuezhen, marketing director of Xinxiang South Taihang Tourism Co., Ltd., revealed that a charter flight route between Seoul and Xinxiang South Taihang will launch in April this year, creating a convenient air corridor for travelers from both countries.

During the event, Hou Meiling, a lecturer at Korea University, shared: “As a Henan native living abroad for many years, being able to speak about the beauty of the Taihang Mountains in my hometown dialect is a true joy.”

According to a 2022 survey by the Korea Forest Service, about 80% of South Korean adults go hiking or walk forest trails at least once a month. Scenic areas in South Taihang such as Baligou, Wanxian Mountain, and Guanshan, known for their dramatic terrain and striking beauty, stand out as distinctive natural attractions.

During the event, the organizers also held business matchmaking sessions with South Korean travel agencies and established a dedicated communication platform linking cultural and tourism enterprises in Xinxiang South Taihang and Seoul, further strengthening practical cooperation between the two sides.
