Central Metropolis of Wuhan Holds Automobile and Motorcycle Sports Convention
WUHAN, China, Oct. 8, 2018 /Xinhua-AsiaNet/--

Fancy motorcycles and monster trucks were performing acrobatics at the opening
ceremony of the first motor sports convention on the night of Oct. 2 in the
development zone in Wuhan, capital of central China's Hubei Province, according
to the Publicity Department of Wuhan Development Zone Working Committee (Hannan
District Committee).

It is another major international game that Wuhan has created in the city, in
addition to a marathon, a horse race, a water marathon and the world fly-in

It is jointly hosted by the Federation of Automobile and Motorcycle Sports
(FAMS) and the city government of Wuhan.

The convention is consisted of seven competitions, three performances, one show
and interaction activities for the public. The competitions included the World
Touring Car Race (WTCR), China Touring Car Championship (CTCC), FIA F4 China
Championship, China GT, China Truck Racing Championship, Car Endurance
Championship (CEC) and Car Drifting Championship (CDC), with several of them
authorized by the FIA.

Six of the competitions were held in the downtown areas instead of traditional
race tracks, with over 360 top racers belonging to more than 80 teams from 30
plus countries including the US, the UK, France, New Zealand, Australia, Italy,
Japan, Belgium, Czech and Switzerland. There were 697 judges and 37 special
purpose vehicles to provide all kinds of professional services.

During the 6-day event, contestants competed with one another sometimes just
within milliseconds. Many citizens recorded the games and posted them on
WeChat, which gained instant thumbs-up. A music festival, a classic cars and
sports auto show and a food festival were also held in the meantime.

Zhan Guojun, the FAMS chairman, said it was the largest comprehensive game for
automobiles and motorcycles so far in China.

The successful holding of the event fully demonstrates the city image of Wuhan
and has a practical and strategic meaning for the city's development zone to
build a sound auto consumption and service system and exploration of the
running of an automobile aftermarket that is based on the Internet.

Dongfeng Automobile Group is headquartered in the Wuhan development zone, which
is also home to 54 Fortune 500 companies, seven vehicle enterprises and over
500 auto parts companies. The zone has strong capacity in automobile
manufacturing, research and development, and its new energy and intelligent
auto base is under construction. Aiming at Hubei's first trillion-yuan
industry, the development zone's world-class automobile industry cluster is in
full swing.
