Prioritizing Quality and Patient Satisfaction, Pondok Indah Hospital Group Achieves HIMSS EMRAM Stage 6, the First in Indonesia
JAKARTA, IndonesiaPondok Indah Hospital Group (Rumah Sakit Pondok Indah Group) continues to carry out digital transformation through optimization, efficiency, and continuous integration efforts, consistent with the hospital group commitment to providing the best health services by prioritizing quality, security, safety, and comfort for patients. This digital transformation is also in line with the Indonesian government’s efforts to encourage digitalization in the health industry, towards the 2024 Digital Health Transformation Strategy.
This continuous effort has led three hospitals within Pondok Indah Hospital Group to achieve Electronic Medical Record Adoption Model (EMRAM) Stage 6 by Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) Analytics, the first in Indonesia, on April 1, 2022.
To date, only 3 hospitals managed by Pondok Indah Hospital Group have successfully achieved EMRAM validation from HIMSS, in Indonesia. In Southeast Asia, a total of 7 hospitals have been actively validated EMRAM Stage 6 and 7 from HIMSS. Apart from Pondok Indah Hospital Group, two other hospitals are located in Singapore, and the other two are in Thailand.
Chief Executive Officer of Pondok Indah Hospital Group, dr. Yanwar Hadiyanto, MARS said, “This achievement represents our commitment in increasing patient satisfaction through sustainable service quality improvement. Stage 6 HIMSS EMRAM validation supports our continuous innovation and digitalization efforts at Pondok Indah Hospital Group.”
“In the digital transformation process, we integrated all services such as laboratories, pharmacy, and radiology with patient’s electronic medical records, as well as various kinds of software and hundreds of medical devices; and implemented IT security to ensure 95-100 percent of medical documentation is done and structured digitally, supported by systematic clinical decision support.”
One of the important digitalization in achieving Stage 6 EMRAM is the application of closed loop administration and clinical decision support. At Pondok Indah Hospital Group, the process of releasing prescribed medicine, pumped breast milk, and blood for the inpatient room uses a QR code scan system. The system will actively provide notifications/alerts for medical personnel in making medical decisions, such as the risk of contraindications or drug allergies.
Andrew Pearce, Vice President of Analytical & Global Advisory Leader of HIMSS Asia Pacific explained, “Due to the results of extraordinary efforts, Pondok Indah Hospital Group has succeeded in becoming the first hospital in Indonesia to officially achieve Stage 6 EMRAM. With this achievement, they have demonstrated an ongoing commitment to improving patient safety and overall healthcare quality, through the effective use and application of electronic medical records. They will be an inspiration for other hospitals in Indonesia to start implementing RME technology just as Indonesia is starting the Digital Health Transformation Strategy 2024. At Pondok Indah Hospital Group, the closed loop administration processes have been implemented and carried out well, especially for the management of blood and blood products, pumped breast milk, and medicines administration. The percentage of bedside scanning in place is highly encouraging for the uptake of these new processes and is comparable with global better practice.”
EMRAM is a system that measures digital maturity in a hospital, with 0 the lowest and Stage 7 the highest level. Achieving EMRAM Stage 6 reflects that the hospital is on the way to achieving a fully paperless patient record environment and using Information Technology in a smart way to improve care quality, safety, and efficiency.
